This doll is inspired by Victor Hugo‘s most famous novel, Les Misérables. The boy’s name is Gavroche. I created him as a collectible Waldorf-inspired doll rather than a traditional gift for a child. Gavroche would make a thoughtful gift for someone who loves literature.
When creating Gavroche’s character, Hugo was likely inspired by the boy featured in Eugène Delacroix’s painting Liberty Leading the People, which celebrates the success of the July Revolution of 1830—just two years before the events described in the novel.
Gavroche’s clothes and shoes are handmade from high-quality natural materials. Standing 30 cm tall, this boy doll has a unique feature for a Waldorf doll: he can stand upright, adding to his charm and character.
